We did it again! In the harshest winter we dared to take a week aside and work on a few small projects. This week's prompt was POSSESSION. A word with multiple (yet not exclusionary) meanings, some of us took it as the demonic possession of horror stories, and others as the things we own, belongings, property. The projects that come out of the other end of an art jam are a blast to behold and we hope their spirit will possess you for as long as it will us.
Inspired by the song "Black Blade" by Blue Öyster Cult (and other similar stories about evil living weapons), we made a game in which the protagonist, a sort of exorcist, has to deal with a demonic sword that attempts to possess him. The objective of the game is to defeat other demonic weapons while stopping your sword from killing innocent people and taking over your soul.
While we couldn't fully finish the game during the week, I think what we came up with is a pretty fun concept - maybe we'll end up making another update to push the game over the finish line... Specifically I want to add a really cool and very lengthy boss fight; the game's focus on dodging attacks is a lot of fun to play around with and I love designing enemies. No promises tho.

What grabbed my attention when I joined the project was this fun dual relationship of possession between the player character and the sword. The weapon is a demonic entity and is trying to possess the main character, meanwhile he is pulling and throwing the sword around wildly.
I chose to characterize the sword as a dog because pets were (or still are) treated like objects, means to an end. I saw a kind of domestication in the way the priest takes this wild thing and exerts control on it. It also helped to humanize the sword, and make it more of a character instead of just an object. Also woof woof ! :))

Here is the link for the GitHub page of Black Blade. We will update the game there and post once it's done !
Devil's Tounge is a typing game, were you need to type NASTY swearwords to aid satan in his evil plot to possess his unsuspecting victims.
For this project I really loved using public domain images, different fonts and compressed music.
Initially I did not like this game at all. I feel like it didn't really fit in with the stuff I usually make and also lacked something, not just from a gameplay perspective. After reflecting on it a bit and making some major adjustments, the game isn't the embarrissing mess it was before.
I still don't know if I like it now, but I think it has its place.
