Making a game with people who have never worked in the medium before was both a challenge and a great time! While Naima was putting together the story, I went into Prater taking 360 photos looking to experiment with the games look. While I initially wanted to introduce more color into the palette but the black/white look stuck with me and shaped the rest of the games visuals. Together with the goofy and over-the-top script the horror-game adjacent look leaves you with a fun uncertainty, like youre unsure how serious to take this.

You can wander the forest and play the game on your own right here: LINK

"my friend from snouter space" is a "playable video" and also a controller. the controller is the main protagonist (an extraterrestrial alien called "snouty"). you can play the game here (even without snouty).
Felix made the music for it and we also met a day before "submission" to record the video together. I am not a very crafty person, but silicone is actually very forgiving to work with, especially if the endresult is meant to look disgusting lol. Silicone smells sooo strange while drying, so I went on a lot of walks in Prater while I had to wait - this is also where the idea for the video came from

because snouty isn't the most stable thing and I have no idea how long it is going to last so I also made this 3D scan:

While trying to come up with ideas, I got this image in my head of two snouts facing each other, and I decided to turn it into a "second-person game". Rather than playing as the character within the game, you play as the person who is playing the game together with their friend, with their snouts always being visible.

This idea allowed me to implement some pretty fun ideas, like how you can review the game's controls by making the protagonist hold up a physical game manual, and how occasionally certain events will occur where the protagonist has to deal with something outside of the game, interrupting the gameplay with a short minigame.

Now, unfortunately, I wasn't quite able to finish the game I had planned (there was going to be a second level and a boss fight), as I didn't have much time to work on it, but I managed to throw together a short demo that shows off the core gameplay and gimmick pretty well. If you're interested, you can check out the game on my itch page:
