"devouring our ancestors" is a collection of wearable memories. Dark and personal memories of our families and ancestors. The history they carry with them. In particular, the focus here is on my own Bulgarian ancestors and the fascination with traditions. The Bulgarian animal-shaped, hairy and masked "Kukeri", who drive away evil spirits in ritual dances at the turn of the year, are one of these traditions and serve as inspiration. Another fascinating tradition that also finds reference is Victorian art, as well as wreaths and jewelry made from the hair of the deceased. These were made as keepsakes or even for family trees and tokens of friendship. This hair art, usually worn on the body or at home, conveys a sense of intimacy and eternal connection with a person.
the sentimental attachment to our memories and stories
the bond and dependence with other people
our way of dealing with what has happened
never forgetting what we are capable of
memories will always haunt us
carrying our history with us
